would have fit in well with Night Gallery
The music, the directing, camera work, the acid-trip feel, the hideous 70's decor of the house during the holodeck, lion segment - this was all like watching a 90 minute Night Gallery episode.

Indeed. It definitely has a "Night Gallery" feel. This would have worked great as an anthology series in itself, or if nothing else a miniseries.
shareSpeaking of which, I once read that there was somewhat of a pissing match between Bradbury and Serling, stemming from the fact that Bradbury submitted several scripts to Serling for TZ during its run, but that Serling rejected all of them, save for the quite mild "I Sing the Body Electric". When asked about it, Serling's explanation (and it makes sense) was that no disrespect was intended, but that the stories would have required so many special effects to have justice done to them that they would have eaten up most of TZ's yearly budget in one episode.
