Coming to DVD in May of 2008!

MGM has announced a DVD of this film, expected to street on May 20th, 2008. I don't have any other details, but it will be released along with THE RUSSIANS ARE COMING and another comedy from that era.

My parents took me to lots of films when I was a kid (lucky me!), and this was one of them. I don't recall a lot of specifics about the film, but it was my first glimpse of Europe...and the talented, late Suzanne Pleshette. It wasn't until years later that I realized this was also my first exposure to the acting talent of Ian McShane. I was impressed by his portrayal of Judas in the 1977 mini-series. His work in Sexy Beast (with the wonderful Ray Winstone and Ben Kingsley) and the great Deadwood series are not to be missed. I'd better take a fresh look at this when it is released on dvd, just to relive a few childhood memories.

Amazon.com has "If It's Tuesday..." (1969) listed as pre-order. I plan on buying it. $14.95 is not a bad price for a movie on DVD, just hope its a good version. On VHS the movie has some visual problems.

However "The Russians are Coming, (1966) is already listed as available for Rent (DVD or Instant Play) on Netflix.

I've seen both movies many time on Video, particularly in classes I took in college studying Film As Art courses. They are classic comedies and excellent movies... Movies which probably could never be remade as Modern cinema is thoroughly overdone by big special effects and other crap.

I have the sick suspicion this DVD release is going to look much like the VHS, as I see on amazon.com that the screen size ratio is going to be 1.33/1 - the same as how it appears on the VHS copies.

Methinks they're probably just using the same transfer print to produce the DVD, as they used to produce the VHS copies.

Gahhh!!!

I see amazon.com has changed the screen ratio to 1.85/1 now.

Things are looking up!
