I'm glad they filmed this on actual European locations
Unlike some modern Hollywood movies, where everything is done on sound stages and green screens, CGI etc.
Also, wasn't Suzanne Pleshette stunning in this!!

Agreed! I love what are basically travelogue films, comedies especially.
shareIn the 1960s, movie audiences were becoming more sophisticated and more aware of fake studio sets, so filmmakers aimed for greater realism by shooting on actual locations. If this movie had been made ten years earlier, it probably would have been filmed largely on studio backlot sets and soundstages, with some second-unit footage of real European locations used for process backgrounds and establishing shots.
All the universe . . . or nothingness. Which shall it be, Passworthy? Which shall it be?
I really enjoyed all the beautiful scenery of all the countries.
shareIt also worked as an excellent time capsule! To be in swinging London right when it was still swinging! I loved the poster of The Beatles in the beginning right when Yellow Submarine was just released. And all the delightful cameos from Cassavetes to De Sica!
shareAnd the Villa d'Este! I recognized it immediately. Wonderful travelogue.
shareYeah, 60's sentiment is something my generation will, sadly, never know. But, hopefully, in the digital age, it will still have some kind of unique magic akin to my generation.
