miniature footage of battleship Yamato in EXTRAS

Can anyone provide any information regarding the miniature battleship Yamato effects footage that is included in the EXTRAS on LATITUDE ZERO DVD? It's just there with no explanation. Is it from an existing film? Was it created for a film that never was completed? Anyone know?

Yes, it's footage shot and used for the 1981 Toho war film IMPERIAL NAVY (Rengo Kantai; The Great Fleet). It's not on DVD, but Sony released the English version on VHS during the 80s. There's also an expensive, unsubtitled Japanese Blu-Ray release.

I got the Media Blasters DVD and went to the "deleted scenes" thinking the scenes didn't look familiar considering I'd just finished watching the movie. Then I see effects outtakes from ATRAGON and realize they aren't from LATITUDE ZERO. Still, it was cool to have Toho effects outtakes at all. Wonder whatever became of Media Blasters. I had read that they were having problems which delayed the release of GODZILLA VS. MEGALON on BluRay, although they did release it as a barebones DVD.
