great film

i love this film, the melancoly 'candles'title sequence/end theme, the downbeat ending, the brutal killings (quite shocking for the time),the theme of 'not fitting in/loneliness', the lighting, mood, atmosphere, loved it.

The only thing I liked about the film was the cute blond guy Richard played by Julian Barnes. Wonder what he looks like today.

The girls in Mini Skirts were great, but wasn't there a continuity error with Robin Stewart's character (Henry)?

He was at the boring party in the house drinking whilst sitting on the floor? Then there's a knock at the door and he enters with more friends.

I guess they missed/messed up a scene there?

Yes, I noticed that. I'm wondering if the version shown on the BBC is a cut copy they've had for years, unless you were watching the DVD and it's the same?

There's also a scene at the haunted house where Richard O' Sullivan has a 5 o'clock shadow and bushy sideburns, then all of a sudden he's clean shaven with the sideburns neatly trimmed. I think that's just the end/start of a different day's filming.

Also, with the blokes mostly wearing flares and colourful shirts, why is Frankie Avalon wearing late '50s early '60s gear throughout? Must have looked especially unfashionable at the time. The women looked right for the era, though the girl in the short black-and-white dress and boots looked a little early for the time, but I'm not complaining...

The film was drastically re-written, re-shot and re-cut by another writer/director at the insistence of one of the Producers. Michael Armstrong's commentary on at least one version of the DVD goes into this in detail. Relatively little of the material outside the house was originally in the film and much of what remains was used differently. For example, none of George Sewell's footage was in the original film and neither was the dreadful pub singalong.
