Richard Dreyfuss sings?!

I love the fact that Richard Dreyfuss sings:
Little Goldfish, Where you going to? Little goldfish let me swim along with you. Little Goldfish, We'll have a whale of a time!

Do you think he was lip synching?

THe song I remember most is "Glub, glub glub. We're swimmin' in the sea of love" or something like that.

I haven't seen this movie in 25 years and just rented the DVD. This is gonna be the best day of my life!

You think That's bad? I've changed the words and sing it to my dog..
"Little Celtie, where ya going to? Little Celtie, can I come along with you. Little Celtie, gonna have a wagging good time.. put your little paw in mine"
OMG.. I can't believe I just admitted that....

I'm glad to see SOMEONE else does this! I was afraid I was the only one that changed lyrics for their pet!! LOL LOL - I'm glad YOU admitted it.... SING ON!

Just got this disc in a mailer from Netflix today - was so happy to see it finally made available on dvd - and just wanted to say 'thanks a lot! Now, I'll be singing the 'little goldfish' song to my cat!! lol...

I've wondered many times whether or not that was really him. It was common practice at that time to dub in other singers over actors' voices -- still happens today, of course, but not quite so flagrantly as back then. It really does sound like him, though. If I ever got a chance to interview Richard Dreyfuss.. never mind Jaws or Close Encounters or anything like that, I'd probably ask my first question about this movie. LOL

Actually, Dreyfuss was just lip-syncing. The voice belongs to composer Jeff Barry. He composed the majority of the songs heard in the movie including the movie's title song (which he also sang.)

Just saw this movie yesterday; somehow I missed it during my growing-up years.

I thought all the kids were lip-synching; to me, the singing voices sounded like older guys, more mature than theirs. On one song I thought it was very obvious that Randall's and Leigh's 'son' was not singing but just mouthing along.

I am watching this movie as I type and it's delightfully bad. Of course nobody is really singing, was there ever a doubt? Jeff Barry - that guy was everywhere.

reply

Well, now, Tony Randall did sing his song...

"Fortunately, Ah keep mah feathers numbered for just such an emergency!"

reply

He may have been lip-synching, and I think it's pretty obvious that some of the others were too, like when it shows on the one guy singing an "Ooh" vowel, and his mouth is comically formed to an "ah." However, Kay Cole, who plays the daughter, was probably really singing - she went on to be in the original Broadway cast of "A Chorus Line," and sings on the soundtrack.

Oh no I accidentally watched this a week ago on Cinemax and now that Goldfish song just won't leave me alone. Funny cheesy movie with some surprising star power old and new. Richard Dreyfuss' lip-synch is so obvious, hard to believe anyone questioned if he was singing. Little goldfish where you goin to? Put your fin in mine =)
