I think David Lynch saw this movie.

I think that the scenes of Burt Lancaster and Deborah Kerr walking through the town at night have a very similar feel to the scenes in 'Blue Velvet' where Kyle MacLachlin and Laura Dern take a moonlight stroll. Note the look of both movies and even the cars that go past each couple. One car blowing it's horn in 'Gypsy Moths' and the "Hey Babe" dude in 'Blue Velvet'.

I don't believe Lynch was ripping anything off, just that he may have been subconsiously 'channeling' this movie a bit while creating his masterpiece.
