Did they change the story halfway through? SPOILER

I noticed after Commander Vince Elliott got attacked and was patched up with bandage, afterwards he started clutching his chest and blinking as if he was going to pass out.

I was thinking the idea was to turn him into an alien monster (infected alien blood). But they made him the hero in the end.
