The 3-disc set of "Chips" is among my prized possessions after decades of collecting many obscure film soundtracks.

The CDs were available before the DVD ever came out.

The 1969 Herb Ross version of "Chips" is highly underrated and draws in spotty reviews year after year. Dunno why. John Williams' music soars, and also manages to fit the musicalization of the story -- not an easy trick.

But it's in my top ten most fave films ever, because Hollywood stopped making big-ass musicals about the time of 1969, and this is one of the films I recall seeing in a film theatre, with a seat-specific ticket stub, the intermission music and all that. The film is just crammed with period stuff from studio lots that no longer exist in the UK. It's right up there with "Tom Brown's Schooldays" (the one with Stephen Fry and Alex Pettyfer) as "moments in time, preserved as if in amber, forever untouchable." Rule Britannia and all that.

The 3-disc CD has scads of dialogue, and interviews, and the soundtrack music, all in one place. Marvelous stuff.
