Neil Vs Heartbreak Kids Leonard

Does anyone see the similarities in Richard Bengamins character Neil Klugman and the Heartbreak Kids Leonard Cantrell, played by Charles Grodan? Both are middle class, average looking, single jewish guys in there twenties, and there both in relationships with beautiful women that come from money and upper class society. I love both these films but theres not much chance of these two pulling this off in reality.

You do have a point Balboa76. Plus, neither of the male leads seems particularly likeable.

Thanks for answering my question, it only took a year lol Both films are works of complete fiction, lower class, unattractive looking, and those assessments are being kind lol, single Jewish males without a good job and a degree from a prestigious college have zero chance in pursuing upper class high society women from money. It would be like getting into a country club without paying the dues and having the members OK you for membership. The Heartbreak Kid's ending with a marriage is a science fiction fairy tale.

Yep yep. It's particularly bothersome in Goodbye Columbus that Neil, who should be thanking his lucky stars he's in a relationship with Brenda, gets angry at her for not using birth control. My God!

Was he brain dead? First off, he did not think to check before having sex if she was on the pill? And second, had he not heard of condoms? Men of that generation knew all about condoms, not some mystery there. Hell, Casanova used one.

So not only was Neil ungrateful for this beautiful girl who fell in his lap, but extremely stupid.

I though Lennie was a much more devious guy. Neil had his faults but I don't feel he was a bad person.
