Cumbres & Toltec Railroad

Hey folks,

When I watched this film's opening credits over a beautiful scene of a train passing by, I suddenly realized I knew exactly where the scene was shot. It was filmed on what is now the Cumbres and Toltec Railroad which runs between Chama, New Mexico and Antonito, Colorado. At that area, the track makes a tight 360 degree horseshoe turn as it snakes across the high plateau as it climbs it way to the Cumbres pass. I rode that narrow gauge railroad in 1969, and it was a great trip. Seeing that opening scene was a special joy.

Best wishes,
Dave Wile

Hey Clint,

If I ever get a chance to get out there again, I might suggest we take a ride on the Cumbres & Toltec one day, and then ride the Durango-Silverton train the next day. Both railroads are nice rides and a great way to seen some of the finestkind scenery.

Best wishes,
Dave Wile
