Wow. So is Yoshishige Yoshida the most underrated director of all time?

Eros + Massacre rules. Immersive story, some of the best framing and cinematography I've ever seen in a B&W film, a complex story which requires repeated viewings, strange surrealistic touches, the ways the two timelines merge, beautiful women, fantastic dark atmosphere, memorable soundtrack, inventive filming style, perplexing dialogues, hermetic narrative, the ambiguous nature of it all, the poetic mood, the very way it's shot, put together and presented, etc. etc.

It's one of my ten favorite films. And it's not even my favorite Yoshida film.

It's really unfortunate that this masterpiece is so little known, there's not even a major DVD release from companies such as Criterion, Masters of Cinema and so on.
