why was Fulci credited?

Just curous, when I went to watch this on Netflix instant-watch part of the reason was that I saw Lucio Fulci was a (co)director. But then I look at the movie and he's not credited and according to IMDb trivia it's a mistake that he was thought that to start with in some rumors. So why is that? Where did that start? Was it put on bad prints just to drum up whatever B-movie sales there were? And why did Netflix follow along with it and (somewhat) bamboozle me into watching it? I might have watched it on its own as a spaghetti western starring Ernest Borgnine, but the Fulci mention was just kind of misleading.
