I can remember watching this on TV in the early 1970s as a teenager, and was memorized. I haven't seen it it in 30 years - I'd love to get it on DVD to see how it holds up.

shareYes, I would love to have this movie on DVD also! It is a true comedy masterpiece, but also a poignant film full of pathos, in describing the way Hollywood was in the 1920s silent era and the 1930s sound era.
This film is a good companion piece to Robert Downey Jr.'s excellent "CHAPLIN" (1992), a real biopic, whereas this film is a fictitious biopic.
Thank you, Carl Reiner and Dick Van Dyke, and the talented cast and crew who made this film possible. It is a fine tribute to a bygone era in Hollywood, and oh, did I tell you, Dick Van Dyke is excellent as Billy Bright, and does his own tribute to his favorite funnyman, Stan Laurel, with this character.
If you love old time comedy and vintage Hollywood, you've got to love this movie!

It's a wide screen 16:9 version. Not sure on color process or captioning but it is of a high quality. There is no theatrical preview trailer or additional special features.

I was checking out Amazon.com a few days ago and "The Comic" is finally out on DVD, I just got my copy from them today and am watching it right now. ---- And another thing that makes the movie special for me is it came out in 1969, the year I graduated from high school. ----- Dick Van Dyke was so great in the movie. ----- A comic masterpiece motion picture. 😎 ----- Rusty
