Which was it? - Spoiler Alert

Even with a few serious hiccups, like having to get new fake credentials late in the process from a new source and Mrs. Evans coming into the picture, Sartet and the Manalese crew made a clean get away. Were the they that good or were the police officials pursuing them that bad?

They weren't really portrayed as bumbling idiots but I think police incompetence was a big factor in the success of the diamond heist; more than the criminals' own effectiveness.

Naturally the criminals made mistakes too. The biggest one led to their downfall. Manalese didn't trust Sartet especially after he almost got caught with a hooker. Why would he bring him around his family especially his daughter-in-law. She had a tendency to dress provocatively and attracted the attention of men. Sartet had been behind bars for at least two years. He was an attractive red-blooded straight young man. That was a recipe for disaster.

Knowing how important his family was to him. Why would he risk involving anyone in the family 'business' who was not part of the family or from the same background? Even Jeanne, who was not Sicilian, was a threat. The two of them and trying to get them back turned out to be the cause of the family's downfall.

Woman, man! That's the way it should be Tarzan. [Tarzan and his mate]
