After having watched the new "Che" movie, last friday, followed by a Q&A with its star, Benicio del Toro, and the 1969 "Che", with Omar Shariff as Ernesto Guevara, I observed a more complete profile of the revolutionary legend.
His more human and charismatic side, is portrayed in the 2008 version, whereas his arrogance, which later on lead to his own downfall and that of "his" rebels, is clearly visible in the older.
I would recommend seeing both. In the '69 version, there is even illumination as to from whom Fidel Castro took his ideas.

Oh, wow, dark horsek - pretty neat that you got to attend the Q&A, too. Thanks for your 1969 recommendation.

I haven't seen either movie yet (plan on seeing new one this Tuesday), so a few quick comments for you:

(1) I assume that you're referring to BOTH films (Che 1 and Che 2) when you mention the 2008 film.

(2) Do you know if this "roadshow edition" is any different from the two individual films? Sounds like it'll basically be the same, with the following exceptions:
The differences between the road show Che and the two-part version are minimal: The animated map that opens the road show's second half is missing from Che, Part II, as, of course, are the overture and intermission music (not to mention that swank program). But Soderbergh is intent on preserving the distinction. "The road show is something you'll never be able to see again," he says. "It's not on on-demand, and it won't be on the DVD."

(3) What do you mean by, "there is even illumination as to, from whom Fidel Castro, took his ideas."
