What a great comedy!

Just finished watching this movie on amazon, and I can't believe I've missed it all these years - what a terrific comedy. I loved the cast, though I think Hawn played it a bit too safe - I don't think she made this the really funny movie it had the potential to be (I can't help wondering if Barbra Streisand, who played 'Doris' in 'The Owl and the Pussycat' would have been better in this role for comedy).

I'm also surprised it got one Oscar nod, and one win - both for Hawn. I thought Bergman and Matthau should've been nominated for their roles. (Matthau had a stellar year in 1969 with 'Hello Dolly' and 'Cactus Flower').

Glad I finally watched this one!

Yes, I just saw it for the first time, and really enjoyed it. All were good, particularly the three headliners. So many great lines of dialogue. "I think I'm going to kiss you." "When will you know for sure?"

Goldie Hawn winning an Oscar the same year she's on Laugh In blows my mind. It's interesting that it's for a supporting role. I think they'd call it a leading role today. Looked like a leading role to me.

I think they were pushing Bergman for the leading actress in this movie, since Hawn was a new-comer to films. They were betting on Bergman for the nomination and the win, I'm sure.

Agreed. This was a lot of fun and the cast were great. I really enjoyed it.

I think with the right cast and director and some updates, this film could work today as re-make. It really is a gem of a comedy.
