Stewart /Grace Lookalike

Anybody else think that the actor that played Igor is a cross between Jimmy Stewart and Topher Grace?? I was in another room when this movie started and was sure it was Stewart, then came into the room and saw someone with the posture of Grace... I signed onto IMDB right away to see who he was related to!

He reminds me of Griffin Dunne. He's sexier than the bland Mr. Stewart and gawky Grace, IMO.

The Nimble, Limber One.

I just saw this movie again, and I had forgotten how much Richard Lenz looks, sounds and acts like James Stewart. I knew it couldn't be him. He was much too young in this movie to be Stewart, but I thought maybe it was his son or something. He looks so much like him.

this might be kinda out there, but he reminded me of bob denver... haha. my first thought was gilligan

reply

Hey bumble bee, don't you think he was the most misscast person in the history of cinema? It,s a classic movie tho.Watch every time it's on.

reply

Listen to him without looking @ the screen. He sounds like Anthony Perkins. Not just the tone of his voice, but his delivery.

reply

Yes! That's who Rick Lenz looks like... James Stewart! I thought while watching it that, man I've seen this guy before. And I have when he was known as James Stewart. lol Looks, acts and movies like James Stewart, it's uncanny.

I couldn't believe the extreme similarites between Rick Lenz and James Stewart. He looks, sounds and acts just like Stewart! Its incredible! Throughout the movie I was convinced that this was his son. There's one big problem though, James Stewart only married once and only had twin daughters! In his IMDb biography its says that James Stewart remained faitful to his wife until he died and I certainly believe that. Rick Lenz must be somehow related maybe as a cousin or nephew perhaps because there just too many similarites here!

James Stewart and Rick Lenz were in a movie called The Shootist (1976) too.

I have a couple of questions:

Whatever happened to Rick Lenz? Was this his only movie role? Did he look even more like Stewart as he aged? He'd be close to 60 by now.

I too saw the Stewart resemblance, but there was also that slightly weird look of a young Anthony Perkins. This guy must have had a hard time establishing a career, when he looked like so many other people.

reply

Yes, he is.

Rick Lenz as Igor was my first love (along with Gene Wilder). I've searched for years for pictures, info - anything! In their final scene, when Toni invites him to dinner, he offers to put some clothes on instead of his towel, she says "Oh, you don't have to go to all that trouble just for me..." - oh, the look he gives her. I could just die.

<sigh>

I'm writing all this down in my memoirs so if I grow up twisted & warped, the world will know why.

I recently saw him on a 1987 episode of Murder, She Wrote. He played a womanizing deputy. He was sleeping with seven different women, one for each day of the week, and was accused of murdering his wife. Of course, the accused on this show was seldom the real killer. Some of his conquests were Kathryn Grayson, Ruth Roman, Julie Adams, Gloria DeHaven, and ... DODIE GOODMAN! All of these women were significantly older than he in real life. Watching Cactus Flower on TCM today brought me here. I was surprised to learn he was the same guy.

"That was a good movie. You should have been in that movie."

Rick Lenz looked amazingly like the James Stewart of the 30's and the early 40's; it was uncanny. And that's likely why he had a brief career in the early seventies.

But there's a problem with an actor who looks TOO MUCH like a screen great. You can really only have one, ever. Lenz faded out to TV roles; though he appears in "The Shootist" with a very old James Stewart, and I think they have a brief scene together right near the end.

As for the Tony Perkins' resemblance, that's there, but then Tony Perkins was sold for awhile as "the new Jimmy Stewart," before "Psycho" ended that.

I wondered if someone would post this topic. I just saw this movie for the first time tonight and immediately when his character came in I would have sworn he was Jimmy Stewart's son so I came on here to check the credits. Amazing resemblance. He looks like him, he's built like him and he even speaks and sounds a lot like him. Uncanny.

"I hope she didn't take my attempt to destroy her too seriously."

reply

the same.... but frankly, he was better looking

Topher Grace is a new one. I've seen Jimmy Stewart, Sam Waterston, and Anthony Perkins elsewhere. I can see bits of everyone, but I believe Jimmy Stewart circa 30 years earlier is the most accurate. There's one part of the movie where he stammers his lines a bit (the scene in his apartment). It's as if he's putting on a Jimmy Stewart impersonation clinic in that scene with all the stammering.
