"I BEAT MERYL" - just wondering?

It suddenly occurred to me that this debut role might be the starting point for that "joke": Goldie Hawn won an Oscar for "Toni Simmons" in 1969's "Cactus Flower," but Meryl Streep's debut was in 1977's "JULIA". She did beat Meryl, in a chronological way. The movies "The Devil Wears Prada" [2006] and "The First Wives Club" [1996] (origin of that line) contains some curious cross references. Miranda bemoans those "unattractive female paratroopers" (is it impossible to find slender, attractive female paratroopers? Am I reaching for the stars here? Not really." in DEVIL; in PRIVATE BENJAMIN [1980], Judy/Goldie Hawn's first posting after boot camp is to "The Thornbirds" an elite paratrooper unit. And then there's "Death Becomes Her" in [1992] with Goldie Hawn and Meryl Streep as arch-rivals... Just a coincidence? I think not.

Vademecum...
