Well Charlie wouldnt get out of bed, and Linus came around to his house and went into Charlie's room. Charlie kept saying 'I dont care, I dont want to go to school ever again, or go out ever again.' Then Linus said 'You may feel embarrased and like you let everyone down, but the world hasn't stopped.' So then Charlie went outside and played!! It was really sweet!!
Wow, am sorry you posted this so long ago, but I just watched it this morning!!

Actually more of the ending was we hear the song "A Boy Named Charlie Brown" again as Charlie Brown watches his friends who had been cheering him along all the while, now the girls are playing jump rope and the boys are playing marbles, then Charlie Brown sees Lucy in the field tossing up a football.

He sneaks up on her, intending to surprise her with a kick, but then of course, she pulls the ball away at the last minute, resulting in his landing on his back.

Then she walks up to him and says calmly "welcome home, Charlie Brown." and the song finishes up.

"Now the shadows of the morning have faded to the August afternoon,
And Charlie's had his day, his very special day,
His morning and his evening and his noon.
Maybe it's a kind of magic that only little boys can do,
but seein' Charlie smile can make you stop a while
and get you feelin' glad you're you."

It's a damned depressing song, if you think about it, but its the same sort of upbeat-depression that permeates the film itself.

reply

Can't be too upbeat for ol' Chuck Brown, but it did kind of end on a higher note, taking a special kind of magic that only little boys can do and so on. It ended with the focus on our favorite blockhead.

I saw your review of this movie and saw you were looking for a soundtrack. There is one widely available.

Charlie Brown stays in bed all day, Linus goes to see him and tells him 'the world didn't come to an end', so Charlie Brown gets up, gets dressed, goes out, sees the kids playing marbles and jump rope...nobody cares anymore that he lost the spelling bee...and he sees Lucy with her football, and he runs to kick it and she pulls it away and he falls on his back and she says "Welcome home, Charlie Brown".

What the hell's the matter with you? This is a kid's movie, works the same way as a fairy tale, teaches kids that life is not always going to be happy, or fair, but that doesn't make it a lousy movie.
