the Herrmann soundtrack

Am I alone in thinking it's really one of his best works? It's really grown on me the last few viewings, especially the really dramatic music that plays under the opening narration, then the "German Retreat" music... and then when the Chetnik commander at the end has the standoff with Welles and orders his "Captain, Officers... attack!". It's really cool. This movie would (pardon my French) "totally suck" without it.

Also, is it me or is it really, REALLY Bernard Herrmann? I mean, watch Jason and the Argonauts, then 7th Voyage of Sinbad, then Mysterious Island, and then this. It sounds like a lot of the same stuff.

The music that plays when you see the Ustashans marching through Bihac sounds A LOT like the music that plays in JASON when the harpies get netted... and the music during the long Partisan march away from Bihac sounds like in 7th Voyage after the Roc has left Sinbad in the nest.

Not complaining really, but it's a lot like Watching 48 Hours and then Commando, or Aliens after Star Trek II. Herrmann and Horner have much in common.
