Petition Criterion for a DVD

Of all the the films from the former Yugoslavia that would be considered for the Criterion treatment, it would be this film and Dusan Makavejev's comedy Montenegro (the last of his 3 big films not given the Criterion 'touch'). However, I would want them to release this film (hopefully in its full 175 minute cut).

I've already written to them, suggesting this, but I have not gotten a single reply. If more people respond to this and write them to suggest this, hopefully The Battle of Neretva will be seen here in the USA in its complete glory.

I second it

I worte to Criterion several weeks ago about this and I got the 'no plans at this time' response.

Hmm, yes I agree that "Bitka Na Neretvi" and "Montenegro" should be on criterion - but I question your knowledge about cinematography of Yugoslavia if these two are the only ones you would mention .

Mostly because "Montenegro" is definitely not the best feature by Makavejev . And there are a bunch of brilliant movies in Yugoslavian cinematography that belongs to so called "BLACK WAVE", by Zelimir Zilnik, Dusan Kozomara, Aleksandar Petrovic etc ...

Correct me if you think or know I'm wrong .

My top 3 are :

1. "BESTIJE" by Zivko Nikolic

2. "LJUBAVNI SLUCAJ ILI TRAGEDIJA SLUZBENICE PTT - A" by Dusan Makavejev

3. "RANI RADOVI" by Zelimir Zilnik

Or any other distributor compelled to release a "definitive" uncut version. It's so frustrating when these epic films are butchered into various versions one missing some scenes while another is missing others...

From reading other posts it seems this may be one of the worst examples of various cuts in various languages, none complete. Not even sure which version I saw, it was a VHS tape, but would sure like to see the "whole thing."
