Parodied in 'Die Mommie, Die!'

Charles Busch's "Die Mommie, Die!" (2003) parodies the "Let's get Mom freaked-out on acid" scene! Hilarious!

Yeah, well, it can't POSSIBLY be any funnier than the original.

Rest assured, it isn't.

For those who don't know, "Die, Mommie, Die!" is a classic film homage set in the late '60s with female impersonator Charles Busch (convincing as he is, I don't dare call him a drag queen) essentially playing Lana Turner's role. Adapted from his stage play, Busch culled his movie together using bits and pieces of other films (mainly Davis and Crawford flicks) but I had no knowledge of this one until I saw it in the TV listings -- and I instantly made the connection. Watching "The Big Cube," it soon became clear that Busch really borrowed liberally: a chunk of the plot, the look of the house, the scarf-covered convertible ride, the shock-factor nudity, the big freak out... Haven't decided yet if it makes me like Busch's film (which I've loved for years) more or less, but the influence is unmistakable.
