Error: bullets fired but no hits?

In the early part where the Luftwaffe 109's attack, one of them flies over a damaged Hurricane and fires at it, but nothing happens?

Seconds later, another 109 flies over the same damaged Hurri from another angle, and fires - it's own bullet path occurs - AND that of the original 109......about 10secs later!!

I'm no expert, but shouldn't bullets hitting earth throw up hitmarks from the ground AS THEY HIT?
