Which came first? BMG or MPFC?

The two minute epic "Bambi Meets Godzilla" is the original animated shaggy dog story. Hopefully without spoiling anything I'll simply say it features a total of two gags, both of which should seem eerily familiar to Monty Python fans. Both "Bambi Meets Godzilla" and the first episode of "Monty Python's Flying Circus" (October 5) are listed here as 1969 productions. Which actually came first? Did Terry Gilliam rip off Marv Newland?

ps. Am I the only one who originally saw this animation (in color!) on an Atari 800 circa 1982?

Bambi came first, but not by much.
You must've seen a colorized version... the theatrical release was in black and white. (I saw it in the fall of 1974 at the Biograph in Richmond, VA, on a bill with "King of Hearts." It was definitely B+W.)

Seeing Bambi meets Godzilla and then seeing King of Hearts must have been the greatest theatrical experience of your life... seriously!!

Memorable enuf to still remember it 30 years later! There was a second short on the program, too-- a cartoon based on a Lenny Bruce routine called "Thank You Mask Man."

Yeah I all three in a multiplex in Long Beach, CA in 'bout '73 or '74.

In Phoenix/Scottsdale it was billed as "The King and His Court". The three (King of Hearts, Thank You Mask Man and Bambi Meets Godzilla) played under that title for weeks in 73/4. And then came back every year for awhile through the seventies. I went every year taking new people. Simply the best movie going experience I have ever had.

I saw it in theatre's in the 1970's. It was opening for "The King of Hearts". I thought it was hysterical.
