Where was this shown originally?

I suspect that before the age of video and YouTube, this appeared on the midnight movie circuit. Has anyone seen this in the theater?

reply

I suspect it was originally shown at the creator's college or something. Not sure about the theatrical release, and then the GODZILLA 1985 vhs included it.

Thanks. I didn't realize this was on the "Godzilla: 1985" VHS. I remember hearing about this title for years before I actually saw it.

reply

yeah, it's on right before the movie

Not sure why it was included, or if there have been rights issues.

I get the feeling "Bambi Meets Godzilla" is in the public domain, so anything goes. I doubt the creator got permission to use "Bambi" or "Godzilla" anyway -- in name or in likeness (assuming anyone even owns these characters anymore)! ;-)

Toho still has Godzilla. They stopped the MST3K Volume 10 box set because it included GODZILLA VS MEGALON. I think that's what happened. They take their giant monster movies seriously.

Luckily I got a copy before it went out of print. Now it was replaced by THE GIANT GILA MONSTER.

I guess the Japanese know when to hang on to a profitable franchise. I wonder if Blue Öyster Cult had to pay licensing fees to record the song "Godzilla."

The first time I remember seeing it was on an old Nickelodeon show called Turkey Television.

I also remember being in tears by the time he did the thing with his claws.

Thanks for that. I vaguely remember "Turkey Television" in the mid-'80s as kind of a potpourri of weird video and animation.

I think it got its first wide exposure in FANTASTIC ANIMATION FESTIVAL(1977)
