The Safari Club

That place was rockin, huh? I mean, the feminist in me is slightly offended, but the rest of me just wishes I was alive in 1969!

The part I find the most interesting about this scene and the crazy opening party scene is that they were so unlike places that Bruebaker and Cathy would ever go, and the contrast is really effective. Like at the party when they're both walking around looking lost, and Cathy's uncomfortable expressions at the Safari Club. They were both too classy for these places (although both scenes are fun for the viewer), and you can tell that the right people ended up together.

PS: Anyone else scared by bleached blond secretary with the orange tan? Yikes.

I was, uh, alive in 1969. Regarding the Safari club, Myrna Loy's statement that "It's bad luck to be superstitious!" is one of the most profound and profoundly funny statements I've heard ever. "Bwanna wanna taxi?"

The only thing I remember about the movie was the chick that Lemmon popped with the cork on the butt and asks her for the check. She says "but you didnt order anything" My mouth is gettin dry just thinkin about her...

HA! I was 16 when I watched it with my bf. I wanted to BE Catherine Deneuve and wore my hair like that for quite a few years in the 70's. I just love this film. Another neat one is 40 carats. Same time frame. Deborah Raffin is gorgeous in that film.

The Safari Club was one far-out, happenin' place, no doubt a parody of the Playboy Club. And I was scared by pretty much everyone in this film, except for Brubaker and Catherine. It was pretty obvious from the start that they would wind up together because of how out of place there they both were.

I don't think this is one of Jack Lemmon's or Catherine Deneuve's better films, but it's colorful, fun and zany – just like the Safari Club. 7/10 stars from me.
