Anouk

It's remarkable how, with her Nefertiti looks (especially with her hair up), she still managed to appear genuinely - and very touchingly - vulnerable in this film.

It requires no stretch of the imagination to understand why a man could be so obsessed by her.

Or does it?
(I am asking, because I am not a man. :))

I agree. She's gorgeous! They don't make stars like her anymore.

I am glad you agree. ;)

And I am sorry that so few people seem to know - or care for - this movie...
Really, it's not THAT bad - not at all.

So let's see... Nefertiti: Egyptian. Omar Sharif: Egyptian. NOW I see why Omar was so taken by Anouk.

But you are absolutely correct; Anouk's exquisite femininity in addition to her vulnerability would present a combination few men could resist.

A film called MODEL SHOP, from around the same time period, also featured Anouk as a kind of prostitute (albeit of the nonsexual variety), where the leading man (2001's Gary Lockwood) chanced upon seeing for the first time in public, only to become obsessed by her.

You know, what's funny is that, even having known about Sharif's origins and life story for many years, I never even thought about it while writing the musing above...

Anyway, I am glad to see true males appreciate her. :-)
(And that goes for you, too, NickRogers! )

And thanks for the hint about "Model Shop".
I haven't seen it, but now I will look it up.

I just saw this on TCM. It was dubbed in English, and I almost turned it off for that reason, but I wanted to see Anouk Aimee and Omar Sharif. They kept me watching even though I feel the film would have benefited from being cut by about half. Of course, I wanted to find out if Carla was a prostitute, but it was really just that I liked to LOOK at the two actors, even though their acting was nothing to write home about.

P.S. I am a straight woman.
