The Score

Who else liked Georges Delerue's score to "Anne of the Thousand Days"?

I loved it and I would like to see a soundtrack come out of the score.

Does anybody else agree?

It is one of my all-time favorite film scores. Georges Delerue's music for ANNE OF THE THOUSAND DAYS came out in a much reduced format on a Decca label in early 1970. Only a few pieces of music were used, mostly the court dances and a few cues, but nothing of the really interesting parts of the score (The Thousand Days Speech or the Love Scene). This was most surprising for an Oscar nominated score. The Decca LP was backed by Tudor music performed by the New York Pro Musica. The score was released much later on CD (still just a few pieces) along with John Barry's MARY QUEEN OF SCOTS. The recent DVD of ANNE and MARY was a major disappointment. Barry's score was isolated and had a full commentary, whereas the Delerue score was ignored. Both recordings are usually available on EBay. Let us hope someday a complete score will be released, perhaps along with Delerue's wonderful music for A MAN FOR ALL SEASONS (1966).

One of my favorites also.Delerue was brilliant. The idea of an A Man For All Seasons/Anne of the Thousand Days CD is great.

Glad you mentioned A MAN FOR ALL SEASONS, forgot to mention that terrific score. I actually own the Decca LP of ANNE OF THE THOUSAND DAYS and found it disappointing because it contained very little of the score. I wish I knew who to contact about this. I know that Film Score Monthly brings out soundtracks from movies, maybe if the companies knew that people were interested in this score, they just might consider bringing this soundtrack along with A MAN FOR ALL SEASONS out on CD.

Delerue also did the score for "Day of the Dolphin". I loved the opening theme.

I can't believe they left out the "love theme", the one played when they first made love and then again, when Anne is in the Tower, counting out the thousand days with the sticks. It is the most beautiful piece of music in the whole film!
