I was Mike Pratt's stand/in

I worked on Randall and Hopkirk for the full 26 episodes in 1968/9.
I was Randall's stand/in and double the the twelve months it took to shoot the series.
Mike, Ken and I became great mates and I stayed that way untill his early Death.
I went on to work on over 800 other films and tv shows over the next thirty years and also have my own page on IMDB.
On the Friends Reunited site I list all of the shows I have appeared on.
I have just finished writing about it all and now have it on CD Rom.
It contains about 150 pages of text and photos from 1958-98...

You can now read it all on www.harryfielder.co.uk

God Bless Mike Pratt.....Aitch.....

wow! that's something to tell the grand kids! I loved the original series, watching it today gives a glimpse into everyday life in the '60s. the London skyline looks nothing whatsoever like it does today

You can read all about it on my web site (year 68/69)

Does anyone remember an episode where marty remembers the poem which takes him back to the grave?

My wife swears this is the case, but its not on the last episode in the dvd box set. Can anyone shed some light on this please.

reply

he recites a grave poem in the first episode if i remember rightly a reason why he hasnt been taken !!! the only other time i remember a poem is an episode where he is being exorcised by some crooks !!!!!!!!!

reply

The episode where Marty remembers the rhyme is the very first episode 'My Late Lamented Friend And Partner', which is 'Cursed will be the ghost who dares to stay, And face the awful light of day' and 'He shall not to the grave return, Until a hundred years be gone'. Trust me, I have seen each of the episodes dozens and dozens of times since I was 8 yrs old when the show was repeated on Central in 1987.
There is no other episode where he remembers or recites any rhyme himself to do with his mortal state. Vic and Bob thought of loads for their series, playing on the fact that none of them rhymed properly- But let's not compare the two. The original was, without question, the best.
Hope this answers your question.

love it harry !! i watch the series again and again and you can get familar with the stunt doubles ,in those days they did a great job for the time but you can see its not the stars throwing the punches and you recognise the same faces , what i love as other people have said is that the series says everything about the time it was made the cars the shops the clothes i could go on and on .......

is there an Aitch-spotters website out there? a little like train-spotting, but featuring all the tv shows and films harry's been in over the years?

;)

Quite an important role, as the stunt doubles were unbelievably obvious in R&HD! All the more charming for it.

This series was the only thing I ever saw Mike Pratt in, but for some reason I got the impression he was a really nice, if slightly sad, guy. Mind you, he smoked enough tabs just in these shows to kill an elephant. How times change.

Bumping this (very) old thread, because just out of interest I checked the OP's link to see if his website was still in existence. It is - with a message from Harry Fielder's son saying that his dad (the OP, and Mike Pratt's stand-in) died just yesterday (6th Feb 2021)! So, RIP Harry Fielder. I was a huge fan of the show.
