Yes, I too am wondering why there was only 26 episodes. I thought there were actually many more. Shame, really, as I am buying the dvd boxed set soon and was so looking forward to watching loads and loads of episodes.
In a tv interview here in the U.K. Kenneth Cope said that the initial broadcast of the series got poor viewing figures, & sales to other countries didn't reach expectations. Perhaps people at the time found it in poor taste? I've always loved the show, particularly the lack of traffic in London & the wonderful cars! I fell madly in love with the stunning Annette Andre, (well i WAS only 10!) her beautiful Australian accent still makes me go weak at the knees! Sad to say that the luke warm reception meant that plans for a second series were dropped, & 26 episodes is all we have. The less said about the Vic Reeves remake, the better!
One of my favourite tv shows from the 70s and a worthy addition to the ITC stable. I agree with all of your comments. I know it was cheap and cheerful but it was very entertaining. All of the ITC shows bring back such good memories, I really miss Lew Grade-a man who green lighted a show with a handshake. With Gerry Anderson passing away recently, it feels like my childhood heroes are all disappearing......
I know what you mean, mate! Lew Grade & Gerry Anderson made it their business to provide quality entertainment that stood the test of time. Even their "failures" are looked back on with affection! What do we have now? I'm a celebrity & Simon Cowell! God help us!
