Dr. Welby diagnoses Kelly with lupus and having children would make it worse but Steve doesn't want Marc to tell her. Eventually Kelly confronts Marc and forces him to tell her. This causes Steve to tell Marc that this is true breach of their partnership and he will move out the next day and then they can figure out what to do about his patients. Kelly has a severe, life-threatening attack and refuses to marry Steve. She decides to go to New York for a photo assignment and Dr. Welby arranges for her to be cared for by a specialist there. Steve and Marc reconcile and remain partners.

Actually, he does in Season 7. It seems that people either love or hate the character he marries (Janet Blake played by Pamela Hensley (sp) ). I didn't like her at all. I didn't think they had any compatibility. It may have been the actress not the character, though.
