Favorite episodes or skits?

Does anyone have a favorite episode, vignette or "short skit" from this classic love program from 1969 through 1974?

reply

My favorite was "Love and the Happiest Days".
It was the basis for the Happy Days TV series.
Richie(Ron Howard),Potsie(Anson Williams),Mrs.Cunningham(Marion Ross)
and Joanie(Erin Moran)were in the episode.

Tom Bosley was not the Father, there was no Ralph Malph and Fonzie was
barely in the show.
Gavin O'Herlihy played Chuck Cunningham,Richie's older brother.
He was replaced in the series and then Chuck went the way of Judy on
another ABC comedy,Family Matters.
Both disappeared without explanation.

The '50's nostalgia and innocence made things intresting.

Neither Erin Moran or Gavin O'Herlihy were in this episode according to the Imdb.

I liked the one with Jeff Bridges playing a college upperclassmen, I thought he was sensitive and thoughtful a foreshadowing of his future roles.

WOW!! The Jeff Bridges appeared in LAS? I never knew that. Do you remember the name of that episode?

I somewhat remember that episode. If I'm not mistaken, it featured George Lindsay (Goober from "The Andy Griffith Show"). I'm not sure if there is such a weapon that you mentioned. Knowing the writers of LAS, they all probably made it up :-)

My favorite episode was the one where a young woman got her toe caught in the bathtub spigot.

reply

I remember that one! The woman was actress Julie Newmar (AKA Catwoman from the "Batman" series starring Adam West).

reply

That plot had already been done at least once before, as an episode of "The Dick Van Dyke Show". I'd love to compare them!

My favorite episode was the one where a group of middle aged woman decide to pull off a heist. I remember Phyllis Diller was in it, and it was written by a woman who went on to make the "Soap" series.

My favorite was the executive that falls in love with his secretary and bursts
out in song (as in the old musicals)and she thinks he is really wierd. Does anyone know what the title of the ep. is or who the actors were? I would like
to purchase it and have no idea of the title.

Hi. I believe the episode of "Love, American Style" that you are looking for was called "Love and the Singing Suitor," starring Warren Berlinger and Bridget Hanley. I really enjoyed it, too, especially at the end when, after Bridget has refused to accept Warren's visions of Hollywood-style musical wonder throughout, the walls of the office sweep back to reveal a huge orchestra and chorus celebrating her acceptance of his proposal. I hope this is the segment you are remembering, as well. Steve.

Favorite: "Love and the Dummies" #1.10b. It featured Paul Winchell and Shari Lewis as shy ventriloquists who meet in what I believe was a talent-agent's waiting room. They are too self-conscious to flirt with each other directly, so they do so through their dummies. Paul and Shari wind up leaving together, leaving the dummies cuddling on the couch.

I thought of this today (6/26/05) when I read the sad news of Mr. Winchell's passing.

My favorite was "Love and the Hypnotist.: Rich Little gets hyptonized into thinking that he is a 3 year old on his wedding day. Hilarious.

My favorite had Monte Markham as a newlywed who, browsing an antique store with his new bride, tries on a chastity belt and then finds he can't get it off. I don't remember who played his bride, but it was a lovely blonde, possibly Susan Day George?
The hilarity comes when the couple are in their honeymoon motel and trying desperately to get the belt off - they keep trying different things and calling down to the front desk for odd items to help them. The clerk and the room service waiter are priceless in their deadpan humor as they respond to the requests. At one point, Monte is in the bathroom, holding on to the sink, and the bride is trying to yank off the belt. The only thing the waiter can see thru the half-open door is a beautiful blonde in a negligee, trying to pull what looks like a reluctant husband. He then tells the desk clerk, "She's a wild one," to which the clerk replies, "Well, if he couldn't handle her he shouldn't of oughta married her."
How I wish this series was available somewhere.
Has anyone gone to that TV on DVD website to vote on it?

A few segments that come to mind:

Two men and a woman are rescued from an island and they are having trouble cashing a check on man wrote to the other on the womans stomach.

A man rents a superhero costume for a costume party and finds while wearing it he can fly, until midnight. Of course he doesn't pay attention to the time.

A guy tries not to turn into a werewolf on his honeymoon.

There was a whole segment built around a guy having just bought a waterbed.

My favorite was a guy holding up a bank I think. He's black and he uses the slang of the day and it was so funny. I can't remember much else about it, but I do recall laughing quite heartily.

... I admire a person that's willing to do whatever is necessary.

I remember a great one about a guy in love with a nude model that was willing to show off any and all body parts, except her hands. The guy became obsessed with seeing her hands, which were hidden or covered in every shot in the magazine she was featured in.
