The Hager Twins

Everybody I have spoken to about this show doesn't care for the Hager Brothers and I am not crazy about them either. Any fans of them here on this board? I don't remember them having much of a music career outside of Hee Haw.

well this is scary.

im watching a dvr'ed Hee Haw (yes i know) and came across this question. so i went to wikipedia and found that they both died a year or so apart a few years back. and they were on the show from 69 - 86!

"Yellow River Yellow River is in my mind"

With their hair do's & shape of their head they made me think of Heckel & Jeckel...

Even as a child the Hager Twins were one of my Hee Haw favorites. In watching them now, I think it may have been because they were actually singing rock and roll songs and not standard country songs like everyone else on the show. I also enjoyed them in the cornfield with their facial expressions. And about their deaths, yeah, once the first one died I figured it wouldn't be long until the other did unfortunately because of them being twins.

Their music was okay but I liked their jokes, I especially loved it when one of them would go running to the doctor because he swallowed something and the doctor could hear whatever it was through his stethoscope, a battleship, a train, etc.

I think the reason they gave people the creeps was the comb-over hair and the matching outfits. I think little twin kids dressed alike is creepy enough, let alone grown men.

reply

Shoot, I use to have the biggest crush on them back then. Need to check out to see what kind of hair changes they had after the show finished to see if they ever changed from the ugly 70's hair.

reply

Both are dead now. They passed away in 2008 & 2009. They were from Chicago so it proves you don't have to come from the South to enjoy good ole country fun!

reply

*shrug*

I thought they were as part of Hee Haw as Junior, Granpa, Kathy, Minnie Pearl, Lulu, Buck and Roy and everyone else. They weren't superstars, but they put their best foot forward, and that's all anybody can do.

Like creepy 70's hockey players.

reply

Why would you say that? Come on. Show a little respect.

reply

They seemed like cut-ups but their music was terrible most of the time. Maybe they did an occasional Jerry Reed song that was OK but usually they stunk.

The Hager Twins were gracious, talented and beautiful men. I disagree with the opinion that they were "terrible". I recently saw a performance of theirs on the RFD channel where they sang "Listen to a Country Song", one of Lynn Anderson's big hits. They were in perfect harmony and sounded great and did a great job! Even my best friend, who had never heard of them or "Hee Haw" said, "they're great singers"! They are fondly remembered.

Gotta agree with Honk. I guess people saw them as cool in the 70s(?) But personalities aside, looking at them today, you almost *have* to laugh. The bad hair dos, the clothes(not *really their fault there, but still), the cheesy pop songs...they looked to me like the geeky guy in high school who tried to dress hip to fit in...to no avail.
