Interesting show

I had never heard of this show before but came across it on the shelf at my local library. I brought it home and watched about 8 episodes, starting with the one where the entire crew and passengers of an airliner go missing.

Immediately, I thought there was mystery there, as if Department S was a sort of like The X-Files but as the series went on it was more about crime thriller / mysteries and was quite entertaining. Lots of style and it's always fun to see that sleazy guy with the beard crack onto the women. He always looks so greasy and dirty yet the ladies fall over for him.

But the great thing is the way it starts, with the freeze frame and that amazing theme tune! I just love it. I always watch the credits instead of skipping them because it's just so cool.

I'm a big fan of The Sweeney, The Professionals and The Avengers and this one is just as good.

I saw there's a new show here on Sunday called Life On Mars, which is about a present day cop being transported in time back to the '70s where the Sweeney era existed. I taped it and will see if that's cool as well.

Mike.

You are nuts! That "guy" is Jason King aka Peter Wyngarde and he's ever so sexy!

Now, admittedly, in the spin-off of Department S called Jason King, the hair got terribly bouffant and some of his outfits a bit weirder...but it was the 70s after all..and you've got to admit there are sports stars walking around today who affect the same kind of "look" and they think they look supercool, too.

Fans of Wyngarde should check out http://volcanoseven.com/HellfireHall/ for a tribute to him.

I must say that Wyngarde got a new respect from me when I realised later that he played Ming's evil sidekick in the silver mask in the 1980 Flash Gordon film. It was fun imagining his face behind the mask. You can't mistake that voice.

Wyngarde was a very interesting actor, who sadly fell from the public eye many years ago.The fact that he was gay in real life but his character was this incredible womaniser is an act of absolute genius! He realeased an LP back then, which makes full use of his voice.I am sure it`s on youtube somewhere. There is also a clip from a Russell Harty show and he seems like a good egg. Some people just need a 2nd chance!

Old pertuneier Wyngarde was a really nasty person in real life.
Vicious enough to pull the wings of air craft.
And a shirt lifter of the first water.

"Was"? He is still alive. Sadly it seems homophobia still is, as well.
