Mrs. Livingston

Was Mrs. Livingston's first name ever given throughout the series' run? Was her husband deceased, or just "off-camera"?

reply

I think she must have been widwoed or dirvoced because in one episode she almost moved back to Japan to get in engaged

reply

She was a widow. In one episode she told Tom that her husband and son had been killed in a car accident some years earlier.

reply

Was she married to an American? Otherwise it might have been better to call her Mrs. Eto or something.

Before the TV series, her name was Mrs. Livingston, no matter who played her; so it made sense to keep the same name.

Was there ever any hint of romance between Tom and Mrs. Livingston ?
I'm sorry I never saw the whole series, but I think it would have been good.

I remember an episode where Child Services was concerned because they thought Tom and Mrs. Livingston had an illicit relationship. Funny scene where Tom tries to explain this to Mrs. Livingston and he can't bring himself to say it. When she finally catches on, she's horrified.

There was an episode in which she said that "Livingston" was the English translation of her Japanese name. I just don't know which episode that was, just remember the bit of dialogue.

So I didn't hear a actual response to the question about Mrs. Livingston's first name. Personally I find it a little dehumanizing that they never bothered to give her a full identity, by giving her a full name.

New thought; Did Mr. French have a first name?

I always assumed she was a war bride from WWII or had met her husband during the Korean War, when soldiers spent a lot of R&R time in Japan.

reply

She had an evil cousin who was living in England, in order to break up the greatest band in the world.
