Third Series?

I was discussing Catweazle with some friends, and one was saying that there was a third series that was written and cast, but ended up never going into production.

I am certain that I read something similar at some time - from memory Catweazle returns to Hexwood Farm and finds a new family there, where the teenage daughter and son help him out in his new adventures.

Does anyone know if this is true, or is it like the "13th episode of Fawlty Towers" urban myth, where people say that it existed, and even saw it many years ago, but there is no evidence of it at all?

Hello, this is all true, the writer- Richard Carpenter confirms this on the U.K. dvd release of the first season. They felt the first season was much better than the second and wanted to return to Hexwood Farm. I hope this helps you?

I think the very end of season 2 sees the balloon heading over towards the Hexwood farm area.I wonder why they shelved the idea?

Actually, if you search on here (IMDB) for Catweazle, then it gives you two results, one which is this one and one which is listed as in production as of 2008. IDK if anything came of it, though.

There's still a reference to something being in production but I think it now refers to 2011.

It would have been nice.

Crazy for axing it.

It would have been great to have a third series. returning to Hexwood Farm would have been good, I liked the first series better than the second. But Geoffrey Bayldon is still with us, and I think he could still play Catweazle even now.

It's a nice idea but it's very much of it's time.Best remembering things as they were.

I agree with Hungerhill. Best left as it is. Geoffrey Bayldon now in a wheelchair and very frail. There is a video of him unveiling a bust of the great Catweazle. It's very touching and a great tribute to a fantastic tv series.

it would have been much better had a third series been made at the time, but if geoffrey bayldon was still fit, i could see him still being catweazle. but obvivously if he's in a wheelchair it's impossible

It's a shame the third series didn't happen. I would love to have seen Catweazle return to Hexwood Farm. The second series isn't the same without Carrot, Sam, and Mr. Bennet. It's also a shame they never made a film in the 1970s.
