The Brady Bunch: Solving family crisis's in 30 minutes or less.

My wife and I recently watched the entire run. It was very enjoyable for the first few seasons. The latter seasons were not that good. IMO, the kids grew up, but the stories didn't grow up with them. They seemed juvenile and immature towards the ends of the run.

Too bad. It could've been an even better show.

The edgiest issue they ever had to deal with was Greg hiding his friend’s cigarettes in his pocket. Of course no Brady child would ever smoke or get drunk or try pot or have sex. It would have been interesting to see them tackle real teen problems. It wasn’t the style yet to portray realism. At least Mike and Carol shared a bed. That was a daring departure from the previous decade’s shows.

The entire show was about having a mixed family brought by death and divorce. It was cutting edge at the time. Getting braces, glasses, having to compete with other siblings for the parent's attention are real issues. Not every teen gets pregnant or into drugs.

Darrin and Samantha Stephens shared a bed since 1964 on 'Bewitched'. They were the first married couple on TV to do this, way before the Bradys.

I've always read Herman and Lily Munster were the first married couple to share a bed on TV. Both series came out in 1964, so it could easily be either. Since they would have been in production before any of us saw them, I'd say go with a tie. Both series pioneered featuring married couple in the same bed.

The irony is that while the Brady character would never try Pot, the Cast showed up stoned because they said that's the only way they could do some of the episodes.. Barry Williams was very open about this along with him having a fling with Florence Henderson and Maureen McCormick.. I envy him on both accounts

Williams may or may not have diddled Florence Henderson, but both denied it then, later, and no one else ever even suggested it happened.

Actors will say anything to sell a book or just to get attention. Maybe they did or maybe they did not. I'd believe Cheech Marin who said that he and Chong did their movies pretty much sober to get things done on time. Companies get very unhappy when budgets run over.

This is a late reply but...
Greg wasn't hiding the cigarettes. He had taken the wrong jacket.

When I was a kid the latter episodes were my favorite because they were just more out there (orange hair, pie fights, Bobby getting buried in a room full of suds, cursed Tiki idols). Of course I was under 10 when I was first watching it every chance I got so I wasn't ready for mature content anyway and the dream of running a pool table like Bobby Brady was exciting.

The kid actors were also upset about the fact that the series wouldn't include storylines about more real-life teen issues in later seasons.

Maureen McCormick revealed in her memoir that she and Eve Plumb retaliated by not wearing bras and panties while filming scenes.

One day, producer-director Lloyd Schwartz noticed while watching dailies and confronted them about it.

From that point on, he would meet them on set before filming scenes and put his hand on the young girls’ backs to make sure they were wearing bras.

Heheh.. with girls that age, sometimes removing a bra makes the breasts go *up* not down.

Oh yeah?

reply

Oh come on.. You didn't like the Brady's going to Hawaii and meeting Vincent Price or when the Brady's went to the Grand Canyon and Bobby got lost and befriended an Indian boy who ran away from home??

reply

One crisis, two crises.
