Why didn't she just keep her big mouth shut instead of going nuts trying to find them? Then, her mother would have just blamed Marcia, who probably deserved it.

She wouldn't have had to explicitly blame Marcia. She could have just kept her yap shut, and Carol probably would have blamed Marcia.

You could either take an ethics class or google "continuing misrepresentation".

A lie by omission is a lie ethically and legally.

I've taken several ethics classes. Ethics is subjective. As far as the lie by omission goes: again, your opinion, not mine.
