Bobby and mumps

Concerning when Bobby kissed the girl and was afraid he would get mumps. The vaccine for mumps had already been invented. I am surprised that fabulous Mike and Carol would not have got the kids shots before. Not to mention the measles episode.

reply

Maybe they were parents who believed that vaccines caused Attention Deficit Disorder

reply

Attention Deficit Disorder didn't exist prior to 1998.

reply

of course ADHD and ADD existed! it just wasn't known back then -- they sure as shi7 weren't considered learning disabilities back then. to be honest, a lot of kids who were ADHD were considered rambunctious or rowdy.

and bullshi7 double bullshi7 on prior 1998. I was diagnosed with it in 1985. so anything else moronic and ignorant you want to say?

ADHD is considered a learning disability in its own whereas ADD is not a disability without another learning disability.

ADHD people get IEP plans, and ADD people get 504 plans.

if you don't know about the Education for all Handicapped children act by now [started in 1975] then shut up about shi7 you don't know!

It existed a lot longer than back then. Probably centuries. But as previous poster stated it wasn't very well known.

reply

I realize they were just kids, but something that always stands out to me about this episode is how unconvincing Melissa Sue Anderson is in the role. In the dream sequence, she looks like she can barely stand Mike Lookinland.

reply

It didn't look like Mike Lookinland and Melissa Sue Anderson really kissed. There may have been a law against filming young children kissing. Or maybe their parents would not allow it. Both Lookinland and Anderson were raised as Mormons.

Yes, I have to agree with you. The two kisses were filmed at a certain angle that their lips never touched, I am convinced of this. Not sure of the reason - parents not allowing it seems plausible.

.

reply

Never knew that.

She looks like she rolled her eyes, lol.

reply

Lookinland later did a cameo on Little House as a boy who caught Mary's eye after her fiancé dumped her, so I'm guessing things couldn't have been too bad between them.

reply

Mike has said that his first kiss was with Missy while filming this episode (or was it rehearsing?) In any case, the Brady Bunch was a one-camera show, so in order to get a scene from different angles, they had to film it multiple times. So we did not see all of the kissing they did.

One of the few shots that was done in exactly one take: Marcia getting hit by the football (which was actually a piece of foam rubber shaped like a football).

reply

LOL...I just mentioned that before I read yours...

reply

I don't blame her. I had a hard time stomaching him, too.

perhaps we are just too used to seeing MSA as Mary Ingalls. it was quite shocking to see her in thigh dresses and jumpers with knee socks.

I just caught an episode of the 80's action show, 'The Equalizer', which featured Melissa Sue Anderson as a guest star.

They worked together on an episode of LHOTP...thought that was kind of funny,

LHOTP?

Alice kept a list of all the children's vaccinations including Tiger who had been vaccinated for distemper.

reply

There may have been a vaccine but that doesn't mean everyone was vaccinated. I myself had the mumps about 3 years after that particular episode originally aired.
