Meal Time With The Brady Bunch

It seems like the Brady's ate pretty well. Alice was a dynamite cook! I've noticed it seems like dinners consisted of things like pot roast, meatloaf, and of course the famous "pork chops and applesauce." Alice is often seen working on a fresh salad as well. Milk seems to have been the beverage of choice. No sodas for this clan! Breakfast seems to have been pancakes, eggs, sausage, some fresh fruit, juice, more milk and coffee for the adults. School lunches were a lot of PB & J. Sometimes, those lunches were traded to other kids in exchange for a champion leaping frogs and other such novelties.

Oh, and of course, no discussion of BB cuisine would be complete without mentioning the kids' favorite: PIZZA. Specifically, pizza from the greatest pizza place of them all: Marcone's (I think that was the placed named in the Phil Packer episode as being their favorite pizza parlor)

Also, they didn't like anything too fancy. Meals "fit for a king" were rejected with the retort: "If it's fit for a king, then give it to a king...and get me some bologna!!!"

I am sure Alice and the Brady's got a discount on meat, seeing as Alice was dating the butcher, Sam.

reply

Now that you mention it, I think in one of the episodes (have no idea which one) they actually do get a discount from Sam because of Alice.

reply

I think the pizza restaurant was called Marioni's.

reply

Well, since you brought up food on the Brady Bunch, the one thing that sticks out the most for me are the pieces of cake with whipped cream that Alice dishes out to the kids while they're making a bet the boys wouldn't stay in the attic all night. Man, it looked good...and it was huge!

It was so good, they traveled to 1950's New York City to eat there! (from the stock footage they used for the restaurant)

reply

That Girl and Donald used to hang out at the same restaurant.

reply

What about the football episode, Alice actually bake those two cakes?

reply

Now that's what I call dedication. Speaking of those cakes, they sure looked mighty tasty. Win or lose, the Brady's sure had it made with their grub!

reply

Yes, according to the girls that was best pizza parlor. As fate would have it, it would be the setting where Mr. and Mrs. Calderon would experience the brazenness of America's youth via Phil Packer and his women!
