why do people consider this a 1970's tv show?

The show started in the 1960's, not the 1970's.

Now, there was a live-action Brady Bunch show that took place entirely in the 1970's, but most people want to discount that show completely.

Even though I liked it.

This is not exactly on topic but I get into similar arguments with people who don't think Doo Wop music existed in the 60s or that groups like the Ronettes or Franky Valli & the Four Seasons are from that era as well. They tend to think that the 60s started with the Beatles and the Stones with mop top haircuts, with American white boy rock bands following suit then the Hippie/Counter Culture popping up and changing the course of music culture.

I've seen a few episodes but I don't get why it is so popular.

Maybe it depends on your age and when you grew up. I don't know. For me the show was in reruns for most of my childhood and as a kid I watched it...and yeah, I made fun of it...but still watched it.

Now as an adult...I've watched it...and I do groan at how silly some of the kids (especially the youngest two) can be, but I love the nostalgia in this show. It's a fun romp through the early 70's.
