why do people consider this a 1970's tv show?

The show started in the 1960's, not the 1970's.

Now, there was a live-action Brady Bunch show that took place entirely in the 1970's, but most people want to discount that show completely.

Even though I liked it.

reply

Maybe because 89% of the episodes aired in the 1970's. (13 episodes out of 117)

I consider it to be a 70's show since most of the episodes aired in the 70's.

reply

Because the show was in the '60s for 3 months and in the '70s for over 4 years.

you want to get technical, the values were from 1955.

You have a point. Though it is synonymous with the 70s, it did start in the 60s and continued with the 60s feel. They were always watching cowboy movies, the cars were 60s style (till Greg's land yacht late in the series), the music coming out of the record player always sounded like Herb Alpert and the Tijuana Brass, the colors and feel of the show were crisp and the same style as earlier 60s shows (as apposed to the 3 camera grainy brown depressing live audience stuff that appeared later in the 70s)......
And decades start on the '1's so we can buy them another 60s year for 1970 haha. We can leave it up their variety show a few years down the road to bring out the true horror of the 70s :0

The land yacht I was referring to was the 1974 Impala convertible Greg used in the driving test against Marsha (I at least thought it was his. Hadn't seen it in decades.) The 70-72 Plymouths still had the 60s or at least transitional look which is what I was going for in my previous post.

STUPID QUESTION.

STUPID QUESTION.

Looks like more of a statement to me.

reply

Here's why I criticized the question.

It ran from 1969-1974.

It debuted at the very last year of the decade so it should be obvious.

Agreed!

To be technical, the last two years of the decade. The decade of the sixties ran for 1961 to 1970. Its a technical difference and not really relevant to the feel of the show. But its one of those things that bugs me.

To make it clear, when our calendar changes from BC to AD, or if you prefer BCE and CE there was no year 0. The first year AD or CE is 1. The 2nd is 2. The 10th, completing the first decade AD is 10. The 100th year of AD is 100, completing the 1st century.

The 21st century began on Jan 1, 2001, not on Jan 1, 2000.

reply

To be really technical, we are dealing with two different things

The 60's ran from the start of 1960 to the end of 1969
The 6th decade ran from the start of 1961 to the end of 1970

reply

I do not agree.

reply

The show started in the last year of the 1960's. It ran from 1969-1974. So it WAS the seventies when season 1 ended. And it more likely started in the fall. So, there were only a few months of the 60's left.

reply

The 60s ended at the end of 1970. Decades start on the '1's.

reply

Most Of the episodes of season 1 where probably filmed in 1969 with the Pilot being filmed in 1968. The first season has the look of a 60's sitcom with Carol and the girls in short dresses, Carol's big helmet hair (wig), Mike and the boys tight high water pants and striped T-shirts, Mike's plaid sportcoats and loafers etc...even the theme song has that late 60's bubblegum pop sound.

It is considered more of a 70;s show because the majority of episodes aired in the 70's. The Brady's became the icon of tacky 70's fashion with bell bottoms, Carol's shag hair, Mike and the boys perms etc....

Mike's hair was naturally curly.

reply

I was born in 1980 but no one thinks ns I was born in the 70s, it's always the 80s.

reply

It's not really something that can be argued. Opinions and thought do not matter. Decades start on the '1's.

reply

Not when you're talking about "the 60s", "the 70s", etc.

This notion started during the start of the new century, 2001 many argued was the actual start of the new century.

It doesn't make sense when we're talking about decades in terms of starting with a specific number though. If you smugly tell someone born in 1970 that they were born in the sixties, you might get punched, and you'd deserve it.

reply

One day, if you grow up to be a big boy, you will not have your keyboard to hide behind. Please tell me how it works out for you when you try to 'punch' someone who disagrees with you about something as trivial as the Brady Bunch or when decades start. Please post pics!

reply

IM 6'6"...WORKS FINE FOR ME...YOUR NOTION IS CUTE AND MIGHT WORK IN MATH CLASS.NOT IN THE REAL WORLD...1970-1979....THATS THE 70S...JESUS.

reply

Tell Jesus you're 6'6. See where it gets you.

reply

HOW DO YOU TELL IMAGINARY SPACE MEXICANS ANYTHING?

reply

When I told him I was 6'2", he was pretty impressed since although he was considered on the tall side for his time, he was still only 4'7". Which is why in the bible when they talk about giant sized people, but archeologists never find bones, it's because people who were 6'6" like Kowalski were the giants from most other people's perspective. Let's shoot him in the head with a sling shot cuz giants are evil.

reply

I didn't say I'd punch you.

Read. I said if you said something like that as smugly as you've been saying it here to someone face to face, THEY MIGHT punch you. And i wouldn't disagree with it.

reply

So if you count items in a basket and start with '0' (I guess that's what you do) and someone punches you for it, I won't agree with their actions. Punching is WRONG, young man!

reply

Totally ignored my point. People are referring to the number the decade starts with.

Doesn't matter where you started counting, hundreds of years ago.

reply

Have a happy New Year, Jacob!

reply

They certainly dressed like it was the 70's. Of course California always does lead the way with trends / fashions.
