Amusing title

Lodz was, in prewar times, very much a jewish city. The title (meaning 'from the city of Lodz') reflects contemporary jewish usage. A jew would never say 'I'm from Lodz' because in Polish, 'z Lodzi' sounds very much like 'zlodziej' meaning thief. For this reason they would always say 'z miasta Lodzi'.
