Who thinks that the original....

Is better than the new remake?

reply

I refuse to call the 2006 version a "remake" because it has absolutely nothing to do with the 1968 movie.

I think that the great majority of people who have seen both movies think that the 1968 movie is much better.

reply

I so agree. I love the original always have. The new one looks to much like the new Cheaper by the dozen. I also like the new Cheaper by the dozen

Cheaper by the Dozen 2003 stole at least 25 things from the original Yours Mine and Ours (1968)! Then the 2005 Cheaper went and stole the 2 big families idea from YMO. So Cheaper is ripping off YMO more than YMO is ripping off Cheaper.

reply

Actually, both movies are based on books about two real-life families. "Cheaper by the Dozen" was written by Frank and Ernestine Gilbreth, a brother and sister of a family of twelve children. "Who Gets the Drumsticks?" was written by the real Mrs. Beardsley of "Yours, Mine and Ours" fame. So the original stories of "Yours, Mine and Ours" and "Cheaper by the Dozen" are totally independent of each other.
In the case of originals vs. remakes, I'll have to go with the originals on both counts. Hollywood just doesn't have a clue nowadays on the reality of big families. I'm the second of 10 (yes, we all have the same set of parents), and there's no way its as hectic and chaotic as it is portrayed in the newer "Yours, Mine" and "Cheaper" movies.

reply

Yes I do know about the books.

I was not talking about the original Cheaper by the Dozen (1950), but the 2003 version. It is the 2003 version that ripped off the original Yours Mine and Ours 1968. The original Cheaper 1950 could not have ripped off YMO 1968 since it came out 18 years earlier.

If you look at CBTD 2003 you'll see that it ripped off at least 25 things from the original YMO 1968.

Thankyou for saying this! I'm the 3rd of twelve and I can tell you we get SO tired of the way movies show large families.

We like the originals of both CBTD and YMO.

I was really disgusted by the fact that both these movies were, technically, remade. I mean, seriously, is it too hard to just show your kids a better movie, even if it's older? we have to steal a basic concept and turn it into a yuck-fest about a bunch of brat kids?? I don't even know what the point of either Steve Martin's Cheaper by the dozen or the Your's Mine and Ours remakes was! It infruitates me because i love these movies and my mother showed me these, so how hard should it be to just show the original? it's probably more cost-effective for the studios to just re-release theminstead of throw money to this crap!

I've never seen the 2006 version. But I do love the 1968 version. It's hilarious!

originals are always better then remakes.

^So true^ I didn't really care for the remake. I love the original film!

The remakes are totally ridiculous. Coming from a big blended family, myself, I can see far more realism in the originals, than the remakes. In the remakes, I find nothing heartwarming or funny about a bunch of undisciplined kids. The real humour in the originals, was how the parents dealt with the problems.
I loved how Henry Fonda talked to Helen`s oldest daughter about how it is`nt going to bed with a guy that proves that you love him....It`s about getting up in the morning, and dealing with the kids and the dirty dishes....etc....
I sure do wish that if they make these remakes, they would consider putting some of THOSE messages into them!

In our polically correct soceity according to hollywood-are you kidding???? I'm convinced that the reason why Hollywood remake these films is that they hope that the public will forget about the originals.

I'm not one to forget the originals.

Jay,

The moral fiber of the 2005 version of Yours Mine and Ours was no where near the original. For one thing Frank and Helen get married twice in the 2005 version neither time before God. The Beardsleys are devout Catholics, that is a fact. Frank and Helen were married in a Catholic church in the 1968 original. In the 2005 version they are not really married because they were not married by the Catholic Church. If they are not married then they are living in sin.

As a Catholic I personally was offended by the fact that Frank and Helen were living in sin in the 2005 version.

reply

Dfortier5, I have not seen the 2005 version-you outlined at least in part the reason why.

What do you mean by they were married twice in the 2005 version? They got divorced and later remarried?

I am not catholic, are you saying that if people are not married in the Catholic church-then we are not married in the eyes of God? If this is true, then my two sisters and my Mom & Dad were not married in the eyes of God-because we are not catholics? If this is not what you mean, then what do you mean?

I disagree with the notion that you are only married in the eyes of God if we are married by the catholic Church.

In a way, My Brother(the oldest)and I(the youngest)should be thankful that we never married.

In the 2005 version Frank and Helen did not divorce. They married on the boat and then at the end they kinda renewed their vows with the kids all there.

In the eyes of the Catholic Church a captain and a justice of the peace cannot marry a couple before God. That is what happened in the movie and that is why I said that in the 2005 version Frank and Helen were living in sin.

Absolutely hands down a hundred times. I'd go so far as to declare this my favorite funny movie after "Something about Mary". I know I know they're very different, but I'm just counting laughs per minutes here.

The new one is just a different storyline. Same principals, but different ways.

reply

the original is wayyyyyyyyyyyy better,
and the new one is alot like cheaper by the dozen..
because that remake is NOTHING like the original.

also movie people need some imagination instead of making a movie
of an original messing it up than slapping the name on it.
come on!
sheesh!

The original is a whole lot better than the remake. And I didn't even see it. I just saw the previews for it. And just seeing the trailer, I knew it wasn't worth seeing. You just can't beat a classic. There are so many great, classic films out there. But Hollywood ruins them by thinking they can remake it. I will always pick the original over the remake. No matter what the movie is. I can't stand it when Hollywood does a remake. Ok, I think that is enough ranting for now. I just love classic movies with wonderful actors.

I definitely favor the original much better!

The original is much better! I think the newer version was at the point of just being silly and unrealistic. Overall, the original was more well written and acted.
