Remake

Has anyone seen the remake of this movie with Dennis Quaid? It's terrible. Now I love the stars of the remake just as much as anyone else, but I thought it was a waste of time. The original is way better. Bottom line: don't waste your money.

Despite my long dormant Dennis Quaid fantasies, I refuse to see the remake out of my respect and love for this 1968 classic.

I have been watching the '68 version all my life. I went and saw the remake, just for giggles. IT WAS STUPID!!!! The whole pig thing was wierd, and he seemed to have hardly a connection with the kids. That one sez, " When you got transfered to Guam, there was an e-mail." C'mon Henry Fonda had a connection with the kids. You can tell that when he talks w/ Louise about life, that he understands the kids better and connects w/ them. I was very disappointed w/ the remake.

The pig is not logical in the 2005 version. I mean who has a pig for a pet? I can understand someone living on a farm or with a lot of land having a pet pig but not in a city where there are by-laws against it.

In my opinion the pig was put in the movie for a very specific reason. Although it is for a very subtle and subliminal reason. It is the creators' way of humiliating the real Helen and Frank by calling them pigs for having so many children.

The reason I came to this realisation as soon as I saw the pig on the poster, months before the movie came out, is because my parents had 8 kids and they were called pigs to their faces by some ignorent people. So I saw the link between the pig and insult right away.

"I'd rather believe what I believe and be wrong than believe what you believe and be wrong."

Lots of people have pigs for pets. There's actually an "adopt a pig" organization. It's not far fetched, at all.

I seldomly pay to see remakes. I have no idea why there are so many of them.

reply

Well, I guess you don't watch too many movies, especially Classic films since many of them are in fact remakes. Even many directors (famous ones like Hitchcock) remade many of their films.

In a way, one could say this is a remake of the actual lives it's based on since many of things in this film didn't happen in real life. Actually, Lucille Ball had episodic scenes from past shows inserted into this film so, in a way, one could say this could be a remake of Lucille Ball's show(s) -- in the sense that she took scenes from them and integrated them into the movie.

I hate to break it to you: nothing's original in film, story-wise or otherwise for that matter. Except maybe in technical matters.

I refuse to see it. The preview makes it look like a joke. Same with the remake Cheaper By The Dozen. I refuse to see that too. I find both movies an insult to the real families.
