NEW DVD?!

I went to Borders to look for the Yellow Submarine DVD and one of the workers there said all the copies have been pulled because they are coming out with a new DVD. I hope this is true. Can anyone confirm this?

I'm glad they are doing a new DVD because while it looked pretty good (and sounded great) there were still a couple of boobs on the first DVD edition.

01 - the VHS edition that came out at the same time was full-frame open matted (ie had more image than the DVD edition). I thought it would have been nice to include this opption on the DVD, especialy as...

02 - the DVD was non-anamorphic and as such didn't correct itself properly for widescreen TVs.

I hope the new edition has both the full-frame and 1:1.66 versions BOTH in anamophic transfers.

I don't know if they are releasing a new version, but it would make sense since Amazon.com is no longer selling it. The only way that you can get it now is through private sellers on Amazon.com.

I'd be VERY surprised if lawyers weren't the reason you can't buy a retail version of YS. After all, The Beatles initiated a lot more lawsuits than they did albums.

I know this is kind of an old topic, but I was just at Barnes and Noble yesterday to see if they had this movie, and the guy thought he had a copy, but didn't, so he looked it up to order me one, and he mentioned that the new DVD was coming out March 24th. However when I got home and pulled up Barnes and Noble's website, I can't find any info on it, but...according to the salesperson at the store, March 24 is the date. I sure hope so, I have been looking for this movie forever, and the prices are crazy on Amazon for a used DVD.

Someone on this thread mentioned the video being an open matte transfer. Did you mean the old version or the 1999 re-release? I have the 99 release on video (got it for my tenth birthday) and, apart from the opening credits, it's cropped (I believe that, rather than do a new open-matte transfer, they just took the DVD master and cropped the left and right to make 1.33.) Best example I can think of is the Frankenstein scene; you never see where the ball of light originates and you don't see where it lands. Come to think of it, you can't even see Old Fred)

For a Region 1 DVD which is what you need in the US on Amazon, USED starts out at around 22 to 23 dollars on up to around 50 to 60 dollars, now I have no issue with a new movie costing 20 plus dollars, but I do have a bit of an issue with a Used DVD at that price, however I may end up getting it regardless. In the US you can't find it in stores anymore, at least I sure haven't been able to find it, can't even get it ordered, so no, sorry I am not mental as you so nicely put it.

And the *beep* at Barnes and Noble must have been smoking some really good *beep* because it has never been released, and another sales person said there was no release date listed for the movie. So it is looking like Amazon is going to be my only option at the moment.

I picked my copy up at Record Connection (a record store in Ephrata, PA) for $15 used. They wanted $5 for the VHS used.

Glad some of you are finding it at a reasonable price. I am just going to keep looking, maybe get lucky and find it one day for a reasonable price, OR they finally put out a new DVD of the movie.

Geez, I just bought it for $5.99 at my local record shop. I didn't even realize it had been released on dvd at all. I bought Magical Mystery Tour on vhs from the same place a few years back.

Just goes to show how great small shops like that are compared to the mega super stores that don't even know half of the sh*t they sell.

yeah region 4 in aus is really pricey 2. they brought out the vhs re-release(which i have) in 95 and discontinued them in 99 when the dvd version came out, but even that was discontinued after about 6-12 months. since then it's become a bit of a collector's item, so untill they release another i'd say those that got a copy rather cheap, think urselves lucky. but i think that would b happening pretty soon concidering the zemeckis remake to come out
