THIS DVD HAS BEEN RUNNING NON-STOP IN MY HOUSE SINCE 2004!!!!

I WAS SMITTEN BY THIS FILM AND SHOWED IT TO MY LITTLE BROTHER WHO WAS JUST STARTING MIDDLE SCHOOL AT THE TIME. IT WAS SCARY FOR HIM TO GO TO A NEW SCHOOL, SO I SHOWED HIM THIS MOVIE TO RAISE HIS SPIRITS. HE LUV'D IT. WE PUT IT ON OUR PORTABLE DVD IN THE KITCHEN AND HAVEN'T TURNED IT OFF SINCE! 24/7 ABBY, JAKE, FLIP, STACEY, MITCH, JASON, MAXINE (ABBY'S SISTER THE SEX MANIAC), HAROLD HER HUSBAND, MRS. BENSON THE MAID, CALICO THE SHEEPDOG, TAFFY THE POODLE, CLEO THE SEXPOT, HERBIE FLECK, DUKE, THE BEATNIKS, AND THE COPS, GO THROUGH THEIR ADVENTURES TO OUR NEVER ENDING DELIGHT. MY BROTHER IS IN HIGH SCHOOL NOW, AND WE STILL WATCH IT EVERY DAY, EVEN THO' YOU'D THINK IT WOULD BE BACKGROUND NOISE BY NOW; I STILL FIND INTERESTING THINGS I NEVER SAW, OR RE- FALL IN LOVE WITH JAKE OR ABBY OR OTHER PARTS OF THE FILM I HAD MISSED. 4 YEARS AND COUNTING, HOW LONG WILL IT GO? AS LONG AS THE DVD PLAYER KEEPS CRANKIN! I LUV IT!!

I haven't seen the movie in years, so maybe you can help me. Who was Herbie Fleck in the film? (Yes, I know George Carlin) I say he was like a cop hop, and someone else thinks he was a cabbie. Could you please help? Thank You

reply

Carlin played a server at a drive-in restaurant.

reply

Thank you. I knew it! On another board, someone said he was a cab driver. Thanks again

reply

Wrong movie

He's a cab driver in the movie "Car Wash"

reply

I don't even think there was a cab driver anywhere in the film.

What's funny about George Carlin is, in that scene late in the film where the hippies and their motorcycles are all at the drive-in, George's character is one of the few in that scene who *isn't* a hippie. Funny stuff considering his 1970s standup incarnation!

I love this movie too. Just saw it yesterday on TCM. I don't watch it non-stop, but I do watch whenever it comes on TV. I'm going to rent it from Netflix this month and watch it a few times. I love the song "Feelins" that The Grass Roots sings in the movie.

i think whoever wrote the main review is a jerk. I loved the film and I am watching it now. What is wrong with people nowadays?
If it doesn't have special effects, sex or violence well then don't bother watching it.
He must have been born in the 80s or something.

Doris Day literally could not make a bad movie.
And Brian Keith---reliable Brian Keith was wonderful as was Pat Carrol.

I say 4 stars out of 4.

reply

There's no way I could be able to do that, watch a movie everday like that. Even if it's my favorite movie, I couldn't do it cause after a while someone would be asking me if that's all I watch.

We watched "Back to the Future" about 10 years straight thanks to my daughter.

For some reason my 5 yr old loves it.

For us, it was just over four months of Wizard of Oz...EVERY NIGHT without fail, my daughter absolutely refused to go to bed until we watched it again. She was really cute about it, so I always caved in (well, it made it easy to convince her to do her chores and get her things ready for school in the morning). She was 5 at the time, her brother was 7, I worked days and my wife worked nights at the local hospital so it was just me and the kids at home at bedtime on most nights.

It got really comical, as the three of us knew all of the words, songs and all, and we would trade up singing and lip-syncing different parts as the movie played.

Thankfully, one night my son begged to watch a different movie, and my daughter actually agreed without a fight...I guess she was finally tired of it too!

We still have a good laugh about this time in our lives - my daughter is 27 and has two kids of her own, my son is 29 and they just had their first. I always threaten to bring Wizard of Oz over on DVD some night, but for some reason neither one of them will let me...

Is it still running non-stop in your house?

reply

I don't watch it everyday, but I do watch it about six times a year. It's such a fun movie, and Doris Day and Brian Keith have great chemistry together. I have a huge video (dvd) library and there are certain movies I watch whenever I need a pick-me-up. WSYGE is one I can always count on to make me smile.

LONG LIVE DORIS DAY!!!!!

reply

Yes, I can see where it would be a good movie to watch when you're down. I think William Christopher as a hippie works for me in that department.

I like your enthusiasm!
