Best Scene of the Movie

It's when Abby says to Stacey "Let's make the list for tomorrow. First, I want you to spend all day at the beach with your friends. Then, I want you to get your nails done and your hair done. Then I want you to go to the movies.....unless you'd prefer to be the lady of the house?"

It's so well acted by both Doris Day and Barbara Hershey, and the shot where we see both of their faces in the mirror is perfect.

You are right, that is one of the best scenes in the film. So true to what Doris' character would have done and how Stacey would have reacted. And yes, nice to see their beautiful faces in the mirror.

I always thought of this as a second tier Doris Day film for me, but I've warmed to it quite a bit as the years have gone by. I loved it as a child, thought it was too frivolous for a few years - taking things too seriously I was.

Now, I really appreciate the mid-life romance and the problems of a blended family. A thoroughly charming bit of escapism to 1968.

This was one of the first movies I ever saw. It was at the drive-in and I was in my pajamas. So it holds a special place in my memories.

The scene is absolutely beautiful. It's a moment of reconciliation and understanding. Doris in particular really shows what a great actress she is in that moment.

Unfortunately Jake screws the whole thing up!

Thanks for your response.
