Doris and Brian

What a great chemistry between these two. It's the only reason I watch this film every few years. And that's how adults flirting with each other in the '60's. I miss that decade.

And Jake's neighbor lady was a scream.

I totally agree - great chemistry. The middle-age romance, well I can really relate to that now!

I miss the 60's too, even though I was too young to remember pretty much any of it. I have some memories of it, but I largely learned about it from films.

I try to tell my kids about the optimism and grooviness, but they don't get it. Things are so grim for millenials now. They just worry about not having jobs and global warming.

The entire supporting cast was funny, the boys, her sister, the maid Alice Ghostley, and George Carlin, and yes, the "street walking" neighbor.

Brian Keith is quite charming in this. He looks like a tough guy, but the character is very sweet and bashful.

reply

Yes, that was his persona - AND IT SO WORKED! A big lovable bear.

The opening credits featured children's drawings and Brian was drawn like Hercules with a goofy smile.

The very essence of a super masculine, but very gentle man.

Wipe out Vietnam, all the assasinations, riots, protests, Manson family, civil rights tensions and the 60's would have been a cool decade!
